Plateau Systems Announces Support for all Major Web/Application Servers

Plateau 4 LMS' industry-leading J2EE architecture is compatible with BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Oracle 9iAS, Sun ONE

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA - March 19, 2003 Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages all of an organization's learning and knowledge, today announced that the Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) has been certified to support all the major application servers on the market. Plateau's unmatched compatibility with integrated Web/app servers such as BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Oracle 9iAS and Sun ONE flows from its commitment to the open, Java-based architecture shared by these platforms. As most enterprise software applications move toward a Web services model controlled by these critical servers, Plateau's customers are assured of a range of choices and the ability to protect and extend their existing investments.

In 2000, Plateau Systems made a strategic decision to re-engineer its LMS according to the open J2EE standards that were rapidly emerging as the state-of-the-art for high performance, scalability and interoperability. That task, completed in fall 2001, established Plateau 4 LMS as the only enterprise-class LMS built completely on J2EE architecture, a distinction it still holds. Since then, Plateau's engineers have worked to certify the LMS' complete compatibility with leading app servers, beginning with BEA WebLogic and IBM WebSphere, followed by Sun ONE, and most recently Oracle 9iAS. All of these are currently in production release.

Plateau's support for these platforms, most of which are also built around J2EE, means clients can invest in any server of their choice and leverage their legacy investments. Interoperability also means clients can integrate the Plateau 4 LMS with a wide range of other applications throughout their enterprise, such as ERP systems, CRM, HRIS, document management systems and other assets.

Achieving compatibility with all the major Web/app servers was simpler for us than it may be for others, because our application is written from the ground-up on an open J2EE standard, said Ed Cohen, Plateau's Chief Technology Officer. This means we now have a single, flexible code base that is already compliant with the Java specifications these platforms use. We don't have to cobble together long branches of code to be interoperable, as other providers do. With J2EE, we can scale up to extremely high user loads at high speed, integrate with different frameworks and support multiple languages.

Plateau's architecture employs the open protocols that are becoming critical interoperability tools among enterprise Web technologies, such as enterprise Java beans (EJB), Java Server Pages (JSP) and Extensible Markup Language (XML).

Supporting these widely used application servers moves Plateau to an exclusive position in the LMS marketplace, and a very rare position for any provider of enterprise software, said Paul Sparta, Plateau's Chairman and CEO. With our widely compatible technology base, our customers can extend the LMS beyond employees to their partners and customers, and maintain security, stability and high performance.
