U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Selects Plateau 4 LMS to Automate Delivery of Critical Learning and Knowledge

Plateau 4 LMS will push targeted learning to employees and contractors, notifying them of requirements automatically: SPR is third Dept. of Energy site to select Plateau this year

ARLINGTON, VA November 6, 2002 - Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages all of an organization's learning and knowledge, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy's Strategic Petroleum Reserve has selected Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) to manage mission-critical learning and automatically deliver required training to all of its employees, partners, customers and suppliers.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) maintains more than 575 million barrels of oil as an emergency stockpile for the United States, and is managed for the Department of Energy by DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations Company. By integrating Plateau 4 LMS with its SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will be able to update and track all the learning and knowledge requirements across its extended enterprise, and automatically notify individuals when a training or certification requirement comes due.

Plateau 4 LMS will manage all instructor-led, on-the-job and Web-based learning for SPR and assess the competencies of individuals who maintain the emergency oil reserves. By providing a single, scalable platform that can be managed at SPR's New Orleans headquarters, Plateau 4 LMS greatly reduces training costs, administrative staff time and potential liability due to training shortfalls. It also provides a platform to deliver just-in-time training, including training revisions or procedure changes that affect the job roles of individuals across the enterprise.

As a heavily regulated company with the task of safeguarding our nation's oil reserves, we have to ensure that all of our employees, contractors and suppliers are fully qualified to perform every task required of them, said Brian Clausen, Manager of Performance Development for SPR and DynMcDermott. With Plateau 4 LMS, we have a holistic view of every learning need, and will be able to automatically assign and deliver either online or classroom training to meet that requirement.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is the third Department of Energy site to select Plateau 4 LMS in the last six months. Pantex Plant, a BWXT Pantex facility responsible for assembling and disassembling all U.S. nuclear weapons, is replacing its legacy training systems with Plateau 4. Kansas City Plant, a defense systems manufacturing plant operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, has successfully implemented Plateau 4 LMS to automate its manufacturing training processes and enhance quality control.

We are extremely proud to provide enterprise learning platforms for Department of Energy sites that ensure the safety or our nation and the continuity of our economy, said Brad Cooper, Plateau's Senior Vice President. The Department of Energy and contractors such as DynMcDermott should be commended for their forward-looking efforts to deliver mission-critical knowledge to all who need it, in a secure, cost-effective manner.
