Military Health System Selects Booz Allen Hamilton and Plateau Systems for Contracts to Support HIPAA Compliance
Booz Allen and Plateau developing learning initiative that will train 130,000 healthcare providers in the Military Health System
Arlington, VA and McLean, VA, October 24, 2002 Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages all of an organization's learning and knowledge, announced today that Booz Allen Hamilton and Plateau have been awarded two contracts by the Military Health System that will support military medicine's compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The two new tasks, totaling $3 million, will be completed by August 2003, and will be performed at Falls Church, Va. by Booz Allen Hamilton and Plateau.
Booz Allen is the prime on these contracts, supported by its partner, Plateau, an Arlington, VA firm that develops enterprise Learning Management Systems (LMS). In accomplishing these tasks, Booz Allen and Plateau will develop, implement, and manage Web-based HIPAA training and compliance tools across the entire Military Health System. Approximately 130,000 healthcare providers in the Military Health System will be trained as a result of this contract.

Under the HIPAA regulation enacted by Congress in August 1996, all organizations that manage patient records, from insurance companies to healthcare providers, must train their workforce on rules relating to the confidentiality of those records by April 14, 2003.
