Government Study Advocates J2EE as a Preferred Technology for all e-Gov Initiatives

Plateau 4 LMS' J2EE/EJB Architecture and Section 508 Compliance make it the Optimal Learning Management System for Government Clients

ARLINGTON, VA July 1, 2002 The Office of Management and Budget has announced a study that ranks Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) as the preferred underlying technology for all e-government initiatives. The finding solidifies Plateau Systems as the premier Learning Management System (LMS) provider for government customers.

Plateau 4 LMS is the only enterprise-class LMS built entirely on Web-based J2EE/EJB architecture, considered the most open, scalable software development framework on the market. Plateau 4 also complies with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires government software to be accessible to persons with disabilities. Plateau's products and services are available to all government agencies and organizations on GSA Information Technology Schedule (No. GS-35F-0069M).

In their study, OMB analysts gave J2EE the highest overall technology ranking, saying it scored 22 out of 24 points on a scale for meeting federal government program architecture requirements. Microsoft .NET scored a 17 out of 24. OMB, which supervises all executive branch government agencies and makes recommendations to the President of the United States, found J2EE had a clear edge in its ability to work with software and hardware that provide Web services, as well as File Transfer Protocol and email services. OMB said all 24 e-Gov initiatives should strive to use J2EE or .NET as underlying technology.

J2EE is an established, mature technology and by far the more open of the two (J2EE and .NET), said Debra Stouffer, who served as a federal enterprise architecture program manager for OMB, in a recent interview with Government Computer News. The fact that it is multi-platform is key.

Plateau has developed the most scalable, intensive e-Learning implementations in the government and non-profit sectors. Plateau LMS manages learning for more than 100,000 personnel at the U.S. Air Force Air Education Training Command (AETC), and has been implemented as the platform for a groundbreaking knowledge readiness initiative at the U.S. Air Force Information Warfare Center (AFIWC). The American Red Cross recently selected Plateau 4 LMS for the largest e-Learning initiative ever undertaken a program that will manage Web-based and classroom instruction for more than 12 million Red Cross employees, volunteers and citizens on a single database.

Plateau has always been committed to using the best technology and building the deepest applications, which is why our government, non-profit and corporate customers can rely on Plateau for the most open, scalable learning technology on the market, said Paul Sparta, Plateau's Chairman and CEO.
