Documentum and Plateau Form Alliance to Integrate Learning and Enterprise Content Management

Open Architectures Allows Seamless Integration to Create True Knowledge Readiness Platform

ARLINGTON, VA June 11, 2002 --Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages all of an organization's learning and knowledge, and Documentum (Nasdaq: DCTM), the leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM), today announced an alliance to offer Documentum's ECM platform as an integrated component of the Plateau 4 Learning Management System. This integration allows organizations to link learning initiatives with enterprise content. The enterprise software developed by both companies is built on open J2EE/EJB architecture, enabling rapid and seamless integration. Plateau and Documentum have a number of joint customers including Guidant Corporation, a world leader in the treatment of cardiac and vascular disease and AstraZeneca, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies.

Over the past three years, large enterprises in highly regulated and audited industries, such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology and energy, have integrated Plateau LMS with Documentum's ECM platform to enhance training efficiencies and reduce operating costs. The Documentum ECM platform enables companies to create, automate and manage all types of content, including learning objects, PDFs, HTML pages, XML files, standard operating procedures and collateral. The Plateau LMS integrates the delivery and management of a corporation's learning activities. The combined solution enables organizations with any training documents in the Documentum repository to use Plateau to automatically alert all affected workers if their training profile is revised.

These revisions typically occur hundreds of times per month in companies where training is mission-critical, and can affect thousands of people across the enterprise. Automating the process of alerting all those affected by content revisions reduces learning cycles, improves quality control and creates immediate hard cost savings. It also eliminates the liabilities associated with having out-of-date content or improperly trained staff.

Plateau and Documentum share a similar vision of empowering the enterprise with accurate, relevant content, said Nancie Williams, Documentum's vice president of business development and technology alliances. This alliance is particularly important to regulated industries, such as life sciences and governments, where compliance is necessary for survival. We look forward to working with Plateau to help our customers maximize operational efficiencies.

This alliance was forged in the real world in mission-critical training environments, said Brad Cooper, Plateau's senior vice president of product strategy. Documentum and Plateau have proven their ability to automate key business processes for large organizations, and this alliance will strengthen our ability to create scalable knowledge platforms for the enterprise by standardizing our integration processes.
