Plateau Systems Relocates Headquarters to Arlington, Va. to Accommodate Rapid Growth and Take Advantage of Vibrant Urban Setting

New Office Space atop Ballston Commons Mall Offers Convenience, Mass Transit and proximity to the Nation's Capital

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA JULY 23, 2001 Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages learning and improves business processes for organizations, announced today it is relocating to one of Northern Virginia's newest office buildings, the Ballston Towers, at 671 North Glebe Road. Plateau's move from its current Fairfax headquarters was necessitated by the rapid growth of the company, which has increased in size more than 300% this year.

The Ballston location was chosen because of its metropolitan culture; its accessibility to transportation facilities such as Metrorail, Reagan National Airport, BWI Airport and Union Station; and its cost-effectiveness within the Northern Virginia leasing market.

Profitable since its second year of operations, Plateau received $18 million in venture equity this year. The company used a portion of this first round of funding to build world-class sales, marketing and professional services teams, and assemble an engineering group that has developed the most comprehensive learning management system on the market.

Plateau has also opened sales offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, New York City, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta.

The company's Ballston headquarters provides employees and customers flexibility and convenience. The location also allows Plateau to implement programs to reduce the area's commuter traffic. These programs include subsidies for employees taking Metro and implementation of the infrastructure to allow telecommuting.

While many high-technology companies are flocking to the Dulles corridor, we found Arlington's historic charm and new energy a fantastic combination for our employees, said Paul Sparta, Plateau's Chairman and CEO. The location gives us travel flexibility, and it provides our customers and partners a vibrant setting to do business.

The 20,000-square-foot office space itself, encompassing the entire seventh floor of the Ballston Tower, will house roughly 95 Plateau employees. Designed by the award-winning architectural firm IA Inc., the office's layout uses light, color and texture to create a high-energy space, while enhancing the productivity required of today's software companies. Many of the hallways and offices are set at angles to the building lines, providing an alternative to familiar rows of cubicles.

We have achieved an extremely efficient use of the space, maximizing our investment without affecting our potential for growth, said Brad Cooper, Senior Vice President of Plateau. This new space includes a large dedicated data center and testing facility, multiple flex rooms for impromptu meetings or temporary project rooms, a relaxing café, and a multi-purpose meeting and training room that will allow us to run multiple training programs simultaneously. This facility will give us the capability of balancing all our internal and external requirements, merging comfort and utility. Plateau Systems commences operations in the Ballston location on Monday, July 23.
